Catalina sunset
February 3rd, 2011
David Tisherman of Genesis 3 designed this negative edge pool to be cantilevered off the second story of an extremely contemporary residence on Catalina Island off the coast of California, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
It was important to the client that the ocean view not to be obstructed, but neither did they want to see the area below the pool and the other residences. This was achieved using the theory of “foreshortening” and verification with a topographical map and line-of-sight calculations.
Tisherman also used the interior floor plans and anthropomorphic studies to understand the visual sight lines – even from the bath-tub. There is more on Genesis 3 and some of Tisherman’s designs in the December 2010 printed issue of SPLASH!
