Pool liner leaks shut Goonellabah Sports & Aquatic Centre over January

December 23rd, 2015

The Goonellabah Sports & Aquatic Centre pool reopened on January 27 following replacement of the pool lining over the past four weeks - however, programs will not recommence until February 1.

It was hoped the pool could reopen by January 25, however time was needed to fill the pool and allow for settling before being opened to the general public.

GSAC’s Maintenance Officer Simon Speidel detected the problem in December after noticing the volume of water and chemicals being used had increased.

He commissioned divers to inspect the pool and several leaks were discovered within the pool lining and the balance tank. Investigations revealed a fault with the seals, and the company that constructed the pool replaced the PVC membrane at no cost to Council.
