SPASA Australia has appointed two new membership executives to further support the members and promote the industry.

Based in South Australia and focusing on the Southern market, Rodney Smith brings a lifetime of industry experience to SPASA. “I am excited about the plans which will take the industry forward and thrive on the opportunity to bring more value to members,” he says.

Luke Daly will be based in Brisbane to work with Eastern members. With extensive experience across many sectors of the industry, Daly is passionate about working with members to help build the professionalism and reputation of the pool industry.

“This is a planned step in SPASA’s expansion,” says Lindsay McGrath CEO of SPASA Australia. “Providing dedicated infield industry professionals to directly support our ever increasing list of members and benefits.”

Focus on face-to-face

SPLASH! caught up with Smith and Daly at the SPLASH! Pool & Spa Trade Show, where they gave a little more insight into their roles.

Smith says: “I find it very exciting to get a new membership base going and build a culture within the swimming pool association. I’ll be doing a lot of face-to-face, kind of like a sales role to increase the membership, do marketing, and be in contact with the clients on a regular basis."

He says he’ll be keeping the communication lines open, so instead of just written communication and newsletters, he’ll be following it up with face-to-face meetings.

Daly says they’ll be focussing on driving the memberships for SPASA.

“I’m boots on the ground, driving the messages for SPASA. My goal – after helping increase membership – is to help develop a career path for young people coming into the industry. I was new to the industry when I was 17 – I was fresh out of school, packing salt, saving to go to uni to do a business degree. And I thought there were all these ceilings in the industry, and now I’ve been in the industry for 11 years, and the ceiling keeps getting higher and higher.”

He says that experience has shown him this is actually an industry you can make a career and a life out of, and he will be helping young people navigate through that process.
