Thousands of US pools don't comply with VGB
October 20th, 2010
US Network NBC's Today show has found that thousands of pools in the US are failing to comply with the new Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Act. The Act requires them to install new, safer suction covers to prevent the risk of entrapment.
Inez Tenebaum, Chair of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, says that compliance is mandatory and the pools must comply now or be shut down, despite some hotel chains, including Marriot, saying they can remain open until replacement covers are fitted.

Meanwhile, a swimmer has been killed in an entrapment accident in a tourist hotel pool in Pattaya, Thailand. Apparently, he removed the grate to look for his lost goggles underwater, and was sucked into the pump. For a link to the story at the Mail Online, click here.
