Pool of the Year
Averna Homes, the home builder of this majestic multi-million dollar, three- level private residence, required a pool builder that could deliver a design that was not only extraordinary, but innovative to meet the challenges this elevated river front property in Applecross presented.
Blue Stone Pools fully designed and constructed the swimming pool and spa, including the surround levels and outdoor entertaining areas. The only input from the home builder was the integration to the rest of the home and final finishing selections, which made this an inspiring project requiring various the skillsets to deliver the finished product to all expectations and beyond.
The rapid incline of the site lead itself to an infinity style pool, giving commanding views at the terrace level of the home. The journey through this amazing 16m by 5.5m water shape begins at a large 3m raised island spa with reclined seats and luxurious stainless steel fittings. The soffit edge beam is refined at such a height that the water seems to be running underneath, with the entry steps to the pool designed around the spa allowing an illusion that the spa is floating like an island. The spa also spilling over on 4 sides that integrates with the main pool’s curved spill over edge. In front of the spa are further transitioning steps that lead in to the main pool area, with 2m Baja ledge on one side to rest up on and take in the beautiful views. The ledge also cleverly cascades over on two sides to create a water wall feature as a backdrop to the outdoor cinema lounge area. The other side has an everlasting marine timber deck cantilevered over the pool with led lighting strip underneath.
The whole pool being elevated out of the ground allowed for a natural appeal with minimum use of glass fencing, to achieve maximum unobstructed views, within the pool zone. Over 25m of infinity edge across 7 different spill over faces and 3 catchment tanks, required millimetre precision to be energy efficient with pump sizing.
The pool will now go into the National Pool of the Year Awards in August.
