How to correctly plumb spa air blower pipework

It’s important to correctly plumb spa pipework underground for air blowers.

Incorrect plumbing can result in water entry into the pipework or blower motor failure through direct water contact or overheating as a result of excessive back pressure.

Underground blower pipework should exit the spa horizontally at injector height where possible. It should loop 700mm min above water level as close to the spa as practical, or be fitted with a check valve.

Pipework should NEVER go downhill (unless it’s fitted with the 700mm loop).

If pipework is laid downhill towards the air blower, any water that enters will never be able to be fully evacuated to the spa. This causes a restriction in the pipework and back pressure on the air blower, resulting in blower overheating/failure.

If downhill plumbing is unavoidable, a 700mm loop is essential at the spa, as well as a spring loaded drain valve below the air blower.

Never run pipework vertically down from the air injectors more than one metre as excess head pressure will be difficult to overcome without the use of dual stage or high pressure air blowers at extra expense.
