McCardel "swims the Channel" in a swim-spa
Australian ultra-marathon swimmer Chloe McCardel successfully set a world record by swimming non-stop for 16 hours at the SPASA Victoria consumer Pool & Spa + Outdoor Living Expo.
The excitement of her attempt helped draw a large crowd of eager consumers to the three-day show.
She completed the swim in a four-metre by two-metre swim spa, swimming a distance equivalent to one-and-a-half crossings of the English Channel. She was restrained by a tether and swam against the current of the swim jets.
McCardel was sponsored by Leisurescape Spas and The Pool Enclosure Company.
Brendan Watkins CEO of the Swimming Pool & Spa Association of Victoria says the huge growth in attendance at this year’s show demonstrates the passion that Victorian’s have for pools and spas and spending as much time outdoors as possible.
“Exhibitors have reported that sales levels and enquiries are the best they’ve seen in years which is a very encouraging sign for the industry in Victoria,” he says.
SPASA Victoria hold two shows per year; the next one is scheduled for August 9 and 10 2014.
