Only three days left to comment on NSW pool barrier review
The 2015 Swimming Pool Barrier Review has been set up by the NSW Government to simplify the regulatory framework and encourage greater barrier compliance, and so minimise water related incidents in private pools.
The closing date for questionnaires and submissions is 5pm Friday 23rd October 2015.
The review was set up by the Minister for Local Government, Paul Toole and will closely examine regulatory frameworks for private pools in NSW and other jurisdictions. It is being conducted by Michael Lambert, who has extensive knowledge of building regulations and is a former Secretary of NSW Treasury.
SPASA NSW & ACT has been a strong advocate of a review and has already put a submission in. However, other interested parties can also make a submission. SPASA's concerns related to the need to address issued relating to training, certification and interpretive inconsistencies with the application of Legislative and Australian Standards in practice.
To date the review has consulted with local councils, water safety advocates and experts, government agencies and peak representative bodies including the swimming pool and spa industry.
