Rheem's new IQ heat pump understands electricity pricing
Rheem’s range of Accent pool heat pumps now come with in-built tariff intelligence.
Rheem IQ has been developed specifically to achieve the lowest practical heating cost with the heat pump selecting the optimal time of day to heat based on the electricity price. In programming the controller, we evaluated every Australian electricity tariff and the controller’s programming understands off peak, shoulder and peak electricity pricing.
In-built electricity pricing intelligence
The tariff optimising intelligent control includes programming logic to optimise off peak by slight movements of the pool temperature, so that the cheaply produced off peak heat is stored in the pool. Differing temperature parameters are available in each tariff period with the intention that peak operation is postponed to the maximum extent feasible, consistent with the desired pool temperature at different times.
Depending on the time of day, a residential pool heat pump can cost 40 cents an hour to run. On the same day, this cost can rise to $1.70/hour so the importance of the Rheem tariff IQ is clear.
Saving pump costs
The potential for saving in costs is extended to the recirculating pump with the Accent heat pump also able to control power to the pool pump. The pump will operate only for those hours needed for heating and in line with the run profile determined by the intelligent controller.
Advanced Operational Control and User Interrogation Features
The tariff intelligence of the controller is only one of the new features offered, with the functionality extending to fan control, de-ice management, alarm logging and PCo connectivity. For example, the BMS interface capability of the unit will allow direct interrogation, status checking and performance data review.
