Submissions called for guide to pool suction standard AS1926.3
Earlier this year the Board of SPASA Australia requested that SPASA NSW & ACT CEO Spiros Dassakis establish and chair a technical committee to review the application of Australian Standard AS1926.3 – 2010 Swimming Pool Safety – Water Recirculation Systems.
This standard had come under the spotlight prior to the 2010 version following a series of horrific drowning and evisceration incidents. One of the important aspects of the revised 2010 version was a move away from a prescriptive approach to performance-based approach. This is an issue that had attracted considerable coverage in SPLASH! since 2006, with many experts commenting on the need for changes, including a move to a more performance-based approach, which was finally achieved.
Now, SPASA is in the process of creating a draft guide to help the industry navigate through the standard.
Follow this link to the DRAFT Guide to: Australian Standard AS1926.3 – 2010 Swimming Pool Safety – Water Recirculation Systems.
IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS DRAFT IS NOT FINALISED AND SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON UNTIL IT HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND OFFICIALLY PUBLISHED.
The DRAFT has been circulated for feedback and advice regarding certain aspects of the Australian Standard AS 1926.3 - 2010: Water recirculation systems. The Guide is not intended to replace the Standard but rather act alongside it.
The benefits of developing an industry specific Guide to sit alongside the Australian Standard include:
• Supportive and Additional Resource
• Industry Awareness, Accountability and Ownership
• Stronger Commitment to Comply
• Coverage of the industry
• Industry Quality Control
• Safer Pool and Spa Installations
Send feedback to Spiros Dassakis at spiros@spasa.org.au prior to October 14, 2015.
