October swimming pool development approvals subdued
November 5th, 2013
Swimming pool development approvals (DAs) for October show numbers slightly down on the same month last year. This October there have been 972 DAs for swimming pools compared to 1039 last year. New South Wales (down six per cent) and Western Australia (down one per cent) were relatively steady, while Victoria (a drop of 37 per cent) and South Australia (a drop of 48 per cent) were considerably down on their good numbers last October. Queensland leapt from a low last October of 74 DAs up to 177.
There will be a full comparison and analysis in the December issue of SPLASH!
These figures give a valuable indication of the way the market is trending. However, they are not comprehensive. For example, they do not include pool projects that are approved as part of a new home, smaller projects under the cost threshold, or renovations that don’t require a DA. Also, not all councils are forthcoming with data; councils in some states such as Queensland are particularly reluctant.
